The Role of Open Web-based Platform
City of Fukuoka, Japan utilise technology to keep up with its aging population and ensuring everyone to get proper health and social care. CareTech is a tool that helps aging citizens especially those with dementia to retain their quality of life. This is a collaborative effort that involves not only the city government, family and health care workers but also the whole community to create environment that are caring to the elderly. With the IoT network of CareTech, city government collaborates with electricians, gas or water providers, newspaper and potal delivery workers to check on individual residents in their homes, to ensure their personal and medical needs. The system also organise and manage medical check-ups via call or texts to the elders. Through this program, the city government engages with citizens, universities and private sectors to broaden the service or care. This program is part of Fukuoka’s “100 Actions to Achieve a Healthy Social Model Anticipation the Era of 100 Years of Life” and in 2020, CareTech has reached 150+ neighbourhood communities and ensure better quality of life of more than 100,000 elderly people in Fukuoka by 2025.
