Social Enterprise Role in Smart Sustainable Development
Rapid rate of urbanisation in major cities have driven many governments struggling to provide various public services to the inhabitants. Thus, many city governments resort to reaching out to Social Enterprise to support the mobilising & dispensing of socio-economic resources. In a survey of inhabitants of Anyang City, South Korea, it was revealed that this collaboration and proper coordination between the City of Anyang Government and the local social enterprises have led to overall economic growth that encourages innovation to current city’s problems. Social enterprises can be the key tool to address local developmental needs.
According to the survey, the majority of inhabitants agree that social enterprise creates employment opportunities and in the provision of support services for vulnerable populations. In addition, this collaboration also helps revitalise the local economy and gain commercial benefit. Inhabitants of Anyang also recognise the role of the social enterprises also help promote health and environmental awareness in the communities. The result of this research showed that social enterprises can contribute to the development of social, economic and environmental sustainability.
