Smart City Governance to Attain Quality of Life

Upgrading the governance of a city is critical to the success of Smart City establishment. It is imperative that city authority use the data and technology of smart city to improve the governance system to achieve the growth, distribution and effective administration of public service.

Upgrading the governance of a city is critical to the success of Smart City establishment. It is imperative that city authority use the data and technology of smart city to improve the governance system to achieve the growth, distribution and effective administration of public service. De Guimarães et al. (2020) pinpointed five factors of Smart Governance that contributes to the improvement of the City’s Quality of Life. Transparency, Collaboration, Participation & Partnership, Communication and Accountability are the five factors that have great influence in dictate the Quality of Life in a smart city. 

Transparency is significant in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the city governance, which resulted in better service delivery satisfactory. Having a great Collaboration system in the city governance encourage and empower the citizens to actively contribute to the growth and development of the city. City governance that encourages Participation & Partnership among the diverse city stakeholders are more likely to benefit from the generated public value that the relationship created. Excellent Communication in the city governance not only facilitates the participation of the citizens, but also improve democracy and effective public service provision for the citizens. Lastly, having a good Accountability in the smart city governance is the key to enabling economic development, wellbeing and Quality of Life as the citizens can see the value of honesty, commitment to public resource, corruption reduction from their city government.
