Smart City Governance in Developing Countries
With the ever-complicated urban service provision and high population growth, developing countries implemented Smart City with the aim of improving government efficacy and improving the quality of life of its citizen while also promoting transparency and inclusivity of governance with the public. Nonetheless, realising this concept may cost a lot of financial and human resources and imposed various governance challenges. Study suggests that only if the socioeconomic, human, legal and regulatory reform are instituted will the technology-enabled smart cities in developing country can thrive. Hence, Tan and Taeihagh (2020) suggest several policies and strategies to be resolved to boost the success of Smart City implementation. Firstly, the government would need to fulfill basic infrastructure that may require to raise revenue and diversifying financing sources. Then, regulatory framework for smart city governance needs to establish and enforced. Lastly, the smart city implementation also needs to promote inclusivity, encourage participation from all the different actors and institution while developing the human capital that runs the implementation.
