Smart Cities for People
Smart City is a city that is resilient and capable of adapting to current and future pressure to its urban system, such as the intense climate change impact, Fernández et al. (2020) suggests. From best practices in Barcelona, Rotterdam and Vienna, indicate that integration of economic and environmental strategies are crucial in contributing to ensure better quality of life. People should be the centre of the smart city vision; hence the city should focus on how to improve citizen involvement in the development of the city. The concept of Smart City in Barcelona, for example, strives for a more collaborative and sustainable economy to decrease social inequalities and the depletion of natural resources by promoting participation from informed, critical, proactive and empowered citizens.
