Privacy Challenge in Smart City Implementation

With cities in Indonesia implementing Smart City technologies become widely used. Real time monitoring and sensing through various devices that transmit data become a common practice with the intention of processing those data to improve the quality of life. However, Rosadi et al. With cities in Indonesia implementing Smart City technologies become widely used. Real time monitoring and sensing through various devices that transmit data become a common practice with the intention of processing those data to improve the quality of life. However, Rosadi et al. (2017) raised the concern over the lack of data privacy law in Indonesia. Despite having the Constitution explicitly mention that privacy as human right and that the protection of it should be protected by the government, there is no specific law that ensures the data privacy protection. Potential harm of the personal data protection might only be partially protected through the Electronic Information and Transaction Law that prohibits the use of Information acquired through electronic media without the consent of the individual. This law is expected to be further developed that could protect a wider range of data and information collection from the implementation of Smart City.
