Less Polluted Smart City
Encouraging technological advancement and urban innovation in Smart Cities has a significant impact in the improvement of ecological environmental quality and promote high quality growth. A case study in China found that this strategy has resulted in the reduction of exhaust gas and industrial wastewater by approximately 20.7% and 12.2% respectively. Advancement of urban innovation has shifted the urban development from an extensive to intensive development that substantially increases productivity and decreases the cost of pollution control. Better information management also improves the resource flow of the industry, making businesses better at predicting market supply and demand on time and allocating resources properly, optimising production and boost energy efficiency. Furthermore, the improving ecological environmental quality has reduced the case of many severe health problems caused by pollution and saved a city in China 8.69 million yuan in medical expenditure.
