Through analysing the Smart City initiatives that Songdo, Masdar, Amsterdam, San Francisco and Brisbane implemented through their applied technology, policy and community, there are lesson learned that other cities could apply to achieve success, particularly:

  1. Giving cities the capabilities to develop their own unique solution to the local economic development, in consequence this will foster innovation and prosperity in the local city.
  2. Developing technological strategies that are appropriate, affordable and effective to the distinct needs of their citizen and promote equality and inclusiveness in the city.
  3. Equipping the city with vastly dynamic mechanism to better plan and manage the daily operation of the city.
  4. Adopting sustainable urban practice in their spatial and environmental development

In addition to these best practices, it is critical to utilise the main driver of smart cities which includes the community, effective urban policy and technology.
