Harnessing the potential of ICT for better City Governance
ICT is a powerful tool being adopted in Smart Cities across the globe, to achieve integration between agencies and enabling information to various city stakeholders. Example of the use of ICT around the city include sensors that are beneficial in gathering data in real time and social media as a bridge between the citizens and public service provider and the government. The data gathered from sensors and social media are useful to make better quality decision if analysed with collaboration between city stakeholders. Viale Pereira et al. (2017) suggested that to improve city governance, it is crucial that the government should play the role of moderators in managing the collective intelligence of the smarty city. As the moderator, the government is responsible in the coordination, prioritisation and facilitating the decision-making process. With the active role of government in the smart city governance, will reinforce the potential of ICT that are installed in the city. A sustainable governance of Smart City also includes a condition of transparency, openness, accountability and responsiveness to the need of the public and the city.
