Glasgow Smart Circular Economy
Cities are expected to generate up to 2.2 billion tonnes of solid waste in 2025. City of Glasgow takes an initiative to create a more sustainable production and consumption value chain by embracing the Circular Economy Concept. Circular Economy is an approach that reuses, recycles and retains materials in the loop of production and consumption as long as possible, and reduces the need for raw materials while limiting waste that ends up in landfill. Partnering with Graven Design Studio, City of Glasgow launched “Circular Glasgow”, a program that engages business to build awareness of the benefits and opportunities of the circular economy.
In the first launch, “Circular Glasgow” came up with 10 design-led circular innovations. Since then, this program already has 19 ambassadors from diverse business sectors and have connected 550 businesses and helped them to increase revenue stream, realise financial savings and enhance competitive advantage using a range of practical tools. “Circular Glasgow” facilitates the process of knowledge and experience sharing between businesses and continues to build the programs to engage more stakeholders including academia and the public sector.
