Creating City of Creativity and Innovation

City of Batam prioritise the creation of a city environment that supports innovation and creativity as part of their economic development strategies. As city island with limited resourece, City of Batam sees the potential of their manufacturing and creative industry as their future economic power. With the push from the national government and the desire to compete with neighbouring cities like Johor (Malaysia) and Singapore, City of Batam established cross-sector collaboration with industries and educational entities to support the vision. City of Batam is now building a centre for Aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) by partnering up with various aerospace companies and vocational schools in preparing high quality human resource to run the industries. While on the other part of the city, Nongsa Digital Park was built to create a medium that boost the collaboration between creative start-ups, academics, and students in this sector.
