Community Action to Overcome Flooding
Kampung Glintung, a neihbourhood in City of Malang leads the way in initiating a community movement that creates a healthier living environment. This neighbourhood were an area prone to flooding before the community started to build and install Biopore Infiltration Wells in their area. The wells help with the absorption of the excess water during rainy season while also become a medium for processing compost from organic waste. This small action not only drastically reduce the flooding in the area but also started the journey of the neighbourhood as a “green kampung”. Over the years more environmentally responsive initiatives were brought up by the community such as urban farming with hydroponics and urban fishery that have help the community with the issue of food security.
