Building with Smart Material

The advancement of technology has given way to innovation of smarter materials for buildings. Mohammed (2017) defined “smart material” in building construction as high technological material that responds intelligently to climatic changes and different seasons.

The advancement of technology has given way to innovation of smarter materials for buildings. Mohammed (2017) defined “smart material” in building construction as high technological material that responds intelligently to climatic changes and different seasons. It senses and adapt to changes in the environment and suggests architects to consider materials as functional elements that has the qualities of smart materials in each stage of design operation. Alobeidi and Alsarraf (2019) studied the impact of using smart materials for building facades and found that it improves the function of natural light, protection from glare, sound & noise insulation, enhancement of ventilation, better protection from pollution, etc. Having a smarter façade with the use of high-tech material also saves a lot of energy in the building operation.
